Every year for the past 5 I have had the pleasure of being a parent chaperone for my kids ZOO DAY!! Every year I break out the backpack, ponchos, sunscreen, camera and extra snacks for a another fun filled day at the zoo. This past week we have had a ton of storms and rain so I was a little skeptical if the critters would be out and willing to be viewed. As crazy as our weather has been I might choose to sit in my concrete cage until May passes. But to our delight they were all out and excited to have a beautiful day!
There is nothing better than watching kids view animals. They are so shocked, surprised and happy to see them do the things they do. We saw black bears get on their back legs, stand and play….One of the kids in my group is a triplet and commented that they act like him and his brother. Then just around the corner were the bats. I sat back and watched as the kids had their faces pressed to glass looking closely at the little sleeping ones. Another child said, “Look they snuggle together!” Then the capper of my day was when as usual my husband broke the rules and bought the nectar so each kid could feed the florikeets. As you can see from my picture Caytie loved it. Each child giggled and squealed as the birds fought to drink from the tiny dixie cup. If only we could stay a child. I wish we never lost the magical view of our world.
Sometimes it gets no better than a little lemon juice, a brightly colored bird and little child! Next time you are looking for something fun to do…Got to your local zoo! Happiness abounds!
