This week was spent doing my best to be a Super Mom!
First came Caytie’s elementary school enrollment, PTA t-shirt sales, baking, Caytie’s 8th Birthday, and then her first slumber party with 5 little girls.
Please don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining. I am just sitting here on late Saturday night thinking, “WHEW… what a week”.
The week started out with the sale of this year’s Truman Elementary apparel. I am the chair/fashion designer for the school and I worked really hard to make different looking shirts that I thought everyone would love. This year I wanted to think outside the box and stay away from the generic 100% silkscreen look. I designed a stitched applique similar to a Abercrombie shirt and overall they came out super! My super fashion design assistant, Jimmieann, was amazing and she did a rockin’ great job. I couldn’t have done this project without her!
Enrollment for Caytie was easy peasy! She is now officially enrolled for 3rd grade. In a week we will find out who little Ms. C’s teacher will be this year.
My week for Jackson was bittersweet.
My baby boy is growing up. This week was his enrollment for MIDDLE SCHOOL. How can my little boy be old enough for middle school? This year is just the beginning of my baby using his wings.
Never has there been a mother more proud than I am of Jackson. He made a point to say hello and was welcoming to everyone he saw. He was obviously enthusiastic about his future and starting the new school year in a new school.
After enrollment I went to the beauty shop for some “me” time and as I pulled into the driveway of our house I was welcomed by the site of 10 boys running all over my front yard. As I got out of the car with my hair freshly cut and styled, they screamed, “Ms. Ross please make us some cookies!!.” I didn’t think twice about it and pulled the new hairdo back into a ponytail and got to mixing up some of my sister’s world famous chocolate chip cookies.
The boys ate the cookies almost as fast as they came out of the oven and then washed it down with lemonade. During the baking I spent time talking with the boys and tended to wounds and counseled their spirits. After that I realized that they are caught between the needs of a boy and the desires to be a teen.
I will bake as many cookies as they want as long as they stay close!!
Caytie’s week was all about her very first sleepover. She has been talking about this event for a year now. She invited 5 girls for a “sleepover-palooza” like none other.
I had my good friends at Glitter Gear create special party sleep shirts for the girls and print pillowcases for the girls to color. If I have learned one thing about little girls it is this: Art projects are key at this age! The girls LOVED the shirts and spent a long time decorating their cases! The girls and I went to a local salon and had pedicures and ate burgers at O’Connell’s (the local beer joint).
Her father and I would like to think that Caytie just loves the burgers but I am afraid that our baby loves a bar! I have a feeling that this will not be the last beer joint this girl goes to.
The evening and overnight was a roaring success. I have heard horror stories of girls being mean and crying, but thankfully with this group there was NONE of that. All of the girls were very well behaved and had a super time.
On a side note, the eaves dropping that Jack I did was priceless!
