This past week I had the pleasure of having my family here at the boat visiting. We cooked out twice and just had a ball. My ever resourceful Aunt Jeanie Jean asked me if I had ever heard of making omelets in a baggie?? I looked at her like she was on fire. So, I just tucked this idea away for future research.
Tonight as I was sitting here with Jack I said, “Hey have you ever heard of cooking omelets in a Baggie?” He said, “Yes!” So, now I am determined to figure this out before the start of the new school year!
I went to YouTube and saw a video of a college kid making one and so I decided to share the how-to with all of you! I tried it myself and made my omelets with smoked salmon, Brie and mushrooms! It was unbelievable! This just may be the perfect thing to make for breakfast on school days or how about breakfast for dinner after that late football practice!!! I promise your people will love these!
Omelet in a Baggie
- To start put a large pot of water on the stove and allow it to come to a boil while you are preparing the omelets.
- Crack 2 eggs in a heavy duty baggie, press all the air out and seal the bag. Smash the eggs through the bag by squeezing with your fingers
- Open the bag and add salt, pepper, shredded cheese, chopped ham, chopped vegetables. Whatever you choose to add to your omelet. Press the air out again and seal tightly.
- Fold the baggie several times making sure all your eggs are at the bottom of the bag.
- Carefully place in boiling water. Let boil 12-15 minutes.
- Carefully remove bag out of boiling water. If your kids are helping you in the kitchen you may want to let an adult do this step.
- Open the bag and your perfect omelet will roll out onto your plate.

I've never had an omelet before, but my daughter LOVES to eat scrambled eggs. I wonder if I could teach her to make her eggs in a baggie like this and cut them up on her plate (same taste right? if she just leaves out the extras).
