I am so honored to say that I am from Oklahoma but I am even more honored to share with the world, Field’s Pies. This Oklahoma company has been making pies in Paul’s Valley since 1925. It started with 2 brothers who opened a gas station and a restaurant next door. Their wives baked incredible pies that became legendary. People from miles, states and even countries abroad came to Oklahoma to have their legendary pecan pie. Now, the pecan pies as well as pumpkin, german chocolate, and even lemon chess are manufactured in a state of the art facility. Field’s make over 20,000 pies a day! They are shipped all over the country and sold in the freezer section of your grocery! I encourage you to make a pilgrimage to Paul’s Valley on your next trip south. The smell outside of the factory is unbelievable. Smells like Grandma’s house!
Once you have a Field’s pie I promise you will be hooked. They still make them the same old fashioned way! Here is a great recipe I made up using a Field’s German Chocolate Pie. Who would have thought that a pie could turn into brownies? Well, these are incredible….
Field’s German Chocolate Brownies
1 Field’s German Chocolate Pie, thawed and cubed
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup semisweet chocolate chunks
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 cup Braum’s half and half
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla or vanilla paste
Vegetable cooking spray
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a metal 9×13 pan with non stick cooking spray and set aside. Take the thawed pie and cut the entire thing into small squares and set aside! Melt the butter and chocolate chunks in a medium saucepan over low heat. Stir until fully melted. In a large bowl mix together whisk together the sugar and eggs till creamy. Using an electric hand mixer for this part, beat in the chocolate mixture, half and half along with 1/2 of the pie pieces. Beat until everything is well blended. Add in the flour, baking powder and vanilla. Only mix till combined! Too much mixing makes for a less chewy brownie. Stir in the rest of the pie pieces. Stir to coat and incorporate. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared 9×13 pan. Bake for 45-50 minutes. Cool and then cut.
