Oh my goodness….
My weather friends at Channel 9 were right on once again. I awoke to more snow. In fact about 6 inches and then even more blowing and swirling around. At first I was totally bummed! But then I decided to embrace the white stuff and get out and enjoy it! The kids got all bundled up and we headed to the Tecumseh road hill (aka I-35 off ramp). I know that is so ridiculous for my readers in other parts of the country but this part of Oklahoma is FLAT. So all we have is the off ramps as hills to sled on. Growing up in Bartlesville we had hills everywhere..Kind of blew my mind 20 years ago when I moved here and realized what I missed was hills and trees. But oh well, this is home and my kids don’t know what they are missing!
Here are some super pics of the kids and even a great one of Caytie sledding. Lots of fun!
Best part was coming in to some warm delicious hot cocoa made from scratch. I wanted to show the kids how my Mom used to make it. They are now so spoiled and I am afraid Swiss Miss might be poor substitute for my rich creamy super warm chocolate beverage!
Mom’s Hot Chocolate
2 1/2 cups whole milk
4 bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped (I use Ghiradelli)
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract or vanilla paste
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until it is hot to the touch.
Whisk in the chocolate and sugar, and continue whisking for 1 to 2 minutes until the sugar has dissolved. Whisk in the vanilla or vanilla paste (and the cinnamon and cayenne, if using).
Reduce the heat to low. Serve immediately, or remove from heat. Top with whipping cream and cocoa powder.
