The past 10 days have been chocked full of fried foods. I have tasted everything from fried cheesecake to a fried Snickers bar. Each of these are delicious and chocked full of fried yummy goodness. Now I do not advocate for you to eat this stuff everyday. But they are fun to make and delicious for a fun event or movie night with the kids! Here are a few recipes that you can use in your own home!
Deep Fried Snickers
4 large Snickers bars
1 cup cake flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 cup seltzer
vegetable oil
Push each candy bar onto a skewer or popsicle stick; freeze for at least 2 hours.
Whisk the flour and baking soda in a medium bowl. Whisk in the seltzer to make a smooth batter (about the consistency of pancake batter). Heat 4 to 6 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot until a deep-fry thermometer registers 330 degrees.
Hold the Snickers by the skewer and dip into the batter, turning to coat. Make sure and completely cover the Snickers bar. Place the Snickers in the hot oil (skewers and all); fry, turning as needed, until crisp, 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Use tongs to remove each bar by the stick; drain on paper towels or a rack and serve warm. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
This is a Wisconsin delicacy! It is a staple in every eating establishment. Much like the Midwestern favorite chips and salsa! I encourage you to give this a try! Perfect for game days!
Fried Cheese Curds
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup beer
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 (9-ounce) package fresh cheese curds, room temperature
In a deep fryer or large pot, heat vegetable oil (375 degrees to 385 degrees F).
In a medium bowl, combine egg, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, and milk or beer until well blended. Add flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder; mix until smooth. Drop cheese curds in batter. Using a spoon, turn cheese curds to coat thoroughly.
A few at a time, drop the coated curds into the hot oil; fry approximately 1 minute or until brown and puffed, turning to coat all sides (do not overcook, or the cheese curds will begin to melt and ooze through the coating. Remove from hot oil and drain on paper towels. Allow fried cheese curds to cool a couple of minutes before eating.
