You probably have seen these everywhere! All of the fancy boutiques are selling them. They are not cheap either. So, I took mine home and looked closely at the design. Pretty basic but what in the world is this elastic ribbon? After some research and double checking my findings with my Grandma I found the answer. FOLD OVER ELASTIC. It is what panties, bras, and even swim suits are edges are lined with.
What you need to make your own hair bands and head bands is easy! All you need is a couple of yards of fold-over elastic, scissors and a knot. I am not teasing you. It is that simple. Now you may ask where do you get this stuff. Well, look no further than Ebay or Etsy. Just search fold over elastic. You will be amazed at what patterns you will find!
These are the measurements:
Hair tie: 9 inches
Headband: 21 inches
Here is how they are made: cut to your desired length. Fold in half and tie a knot at the end. Trim edges. Then wave the edges through a candle flame to deep from raveling. Voila! Your done!
To give as a gift, just put them on a tag and add a cute ribbon! A gift that costs less than a dollar!
