This past month I took a week to travel my way down Rt. 66 and stopped along the way at some of the most iconic places around. Some are famous others are just Mom and Pop places that have been cooking great food for generations!

Chicken Fried Steak has been my #1 favorite meal since I was a kid. It also became the meal that I would make when I was trying to impress someone. Well, let me tell you…Ann’s Chicken Fry House in Oklahoma City is the BEST I HAVE EVER EATEN!!!! I have been driving past this gem for over 20 years and never stopping. Well, boy have I missed out! It is all HOMEMADE with a delicious blend of beef cuts to make the most tender chicken fry I have ever eaten. I loved getting to meet Al and his staff. They were so kind and made me feel right at home. I promise if you stop by you will never go hungry and a HAPPY PLATE is a guarantee!
I met many people who have been coming to Ann’s since their youth! Both families had their children and even grandchildren there to see what they had been talking about. I have to say each and every young person was a bit skeptical but after one bite they were a believer! Now do not get me wrong. The chicken fry is heavenly but they hand make everything. Even the fried green tomatoes. I have not had better since my time in Savannah. Al showed me how they do it and I swore I would take it to the grave! So, next time you are in you have to try some of the incredible side dishes!
Next time you are driving down Rt. 66 in Oklahoma take a minute and stop. If only I had done it 20 years ago I would have known about this amazing gem!
