Today it is cold, rainy and dreary. Nothing gets me in a better mood than the smell of apples cooking and a big hot mug of apple cider. Simple really. Here are 2 super easy recipes you can make with very little fuss and probably have all of the ingredients in your pantry! Just waiting for you to make them into a little bit of yummy-ness!
Slow Cooker Apple Cider
8 cups apple juice
3 cinnamon sticks
1 orange
1 lemon peel
2 tablespoons whole cloves
1 tablespoon candied ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Pour apple cider into slow cooker. Using a toothpick prick holes into the orange. Insert the cloves into the holes. Then place the orange, candied ginger, and nutmeg into the apple juice. Cover and cook on LOW for about 4 hours. Ladle into mugs.
Apple Spice Upside Down Cake
1 spice cake mix, prepared according to package instructions
4 Granny Smith apples, peeled & cored
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick unsalted butter. melted
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1/4 cup Jack Daniels
Braum’s caramel sauce
1/2 cup pecans, toasted
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a cast iron pan melt butter and then sprinkle with brown sugar. Place apple halves flat side down in the cooking pan and remove from heat. Pour the prepared spice cake mix over the top and bake for 25-30 minutes or until cake is cooked through. Remove from the oven and invert onto a large plate. Serve with a dollop of ice cream or whipping cream.
