Wow..what a day!
On my way home from the kids lunch at school Jack and I were driving home when we passed a black and white cat that had been hit by a car. She was sitting in the middle of the main road. I saw the blood and assumed she was dead when she turned her head and made eye contact. At this point I was shocked and knew we had to do something!! So I wheeled the car around and Jack jumped out…walked to the kitty who was meowing and obviously hurt quite badly…So Jack picked her up carefully in his arms and held her as I drove to our neighborhood vet. Mind you…Jack is wearing his new favorite Tommy Bahama shirt and the cat is bleeding all over it……But my sweet husband is holding the kitty talking to it and praying for her pain to go away. We leave him with Dr. Biles and hope for the best. However two hours later the sweet kitty suffered major head trauma and needed to be put to sleep. I was unable to find the kitty’s owners and will be paying the vet bill along with hoping that the cleaners can remove all the blood. (On a side note…the poor cleaners looked a bit worried that I had killed my poor husband and that they were going to be subpoenaed in the near future). When I told Jack the amount, I asked if he was mad at me? He told me, “If I get mad about the money then I should not have married you. I fell in love with the girl that was caring and loving to anybody and anything.”
It just makes me really sad to think that here this kitty sat pleading for help and someone drove away. What kind of world has this turned into? Are we indifferent to suffering? Just some things I am thinking about….I would stop again tomorrow. Even paying the bill sometimes you just have to do the human thing and not worry about all the what ifs. Hug your pets tonight and remember to do unto others as you would have them do to you! That goes for all creatures great and small.
