Whew…This Mama is exhausted and so is my little starlet. In fact, there are many moms and dads in Norman, Oklahoma hunkered down tonight breathing a big sigh of relief. Our kiddos have spent the last 7 days putting together their show for The Sooner Theatre and have spent many late nights in rehearsals and then the four weekend performances.
While I was knee deep all last week living the life of a stage mom I found myself feeling grumpy, sleepy and sometimes questioning the reasons why little people must rehearse from 4-9:30 pm every single day. Just how much better could they be getting?
I certainly got my answer this weekend. They improved by leaps and bounds and it was obviously due to the repetition of rehearsing.
I spent the weekend watching every single showing of the Aladdin Jr. performances which started Friday night and ran through Sunday for a total of 4 amazing shows! Each show was excellent and watching these kids overcame flu, colds and even laryngitis to put on one great show after another was quite a testament to perseverance. I could not be happier with Sooner Theatre and our amazing directors Jennifer and Melanie who made each and every child involved feel like a star.
One of the biggest treats of living in Norman is that my children will grow up knowing and loving musical theatre. Most children would have to go to a large city or New York to see a musical but not here in Norman. Our Arts Council and Norman citizens demand that our children grow up knowing and experiencing real authentic musical arts. In this day and age of communities and schools shutting down art-related programs due to budget cuts this is nothing short of a blessing!
It was truly special to watch the community, family members and friends of the cast coming out to support Sooner Theatre and our children!

Caryn, she's beautiful! Look at those freckles! I can't wait 'til my boys are old enough to do fun things like this. Even though I know it's a lot of work for the parents involved. Thanks for sharing!

Stopping by from SITS. How fun! I love watching my kids in plays. I keep trying to convince them to try out for the local theater.
